NyserNet is experiencing an issue with their optical connection. This caused a loss of connectivity to our DR datacenter at Syracuse since 8:07am this morning.

NyserNet is currently working to resolve this issue.

  • Network - VPN
    (Approximate) 06/17/2010 - 08:33am to 06/17/2010 - 10:20am

     **Update**

We are still trying to determine exactly what went wrong with RADIUS. But in the meantime, we were able to apply a temporary fix at around 9:15am.

Users should now be able to connect to VPN. Users at CUMC should now be able to connect to wireless.

    **Update**

VPN service is down because of a Radius outage.  The Radius system also impacts wireless users at CUMC.  Currently users at CUMC are unable to connect to the wireless network. CUIT staff is working on the issue.  There is no estimated up-time at this time.

  • Email - Cyrus
    06/14/2010 - 06:00pm to 06/18/2010 - 03:21am

CUIT is performing an important maintenance on Columbia Email (Cyrus) each night this week Monday 6/14 through Thursday 6/17.   This scheduled maintenance is expected to start at 6pm EST and end at midnight.  This may potentially affect up to twenty thousand users each night.

During each night of this scheduled, necessary maintenance, some subset of clients with @columbia.edu email addresses may not be able to access or send email.  Not everyone will be affected at the same time.  Most clients will not experience an outage, but if you are unable to access email between 6pm-12am EST this week please assume it is due to this maintenance.  Due to the volume of potentially affected clients, we ask that email issues be reported during these times only if there is reason to believe the email problem is due to another cause.

Email delivered during these maintenances will queued up, and delivered.  No email will be lost.   This does not affect Alpha/Exchange customers, or other standalone departmental email systems.

CUIT apologizes for any inconvenience this may cause, but this action is necessary to ensure a more reliable service.  If clients continue to experience issues AFTER the service-interruption hours, please let us know by contacting the CUIT Helpdesk by emailing askcuit@columbia.edu (using an external email account) or calling 212-854-1919.
