    Two of the eight hosts in our externalsmtp pool are out of service with hardware failures.

    This pool handles incoming mail to columbia.edu.  At this time the other six are handling more messages than normal but running OK.

    Impact:

    1. Messages queued for re-try on those two hosts are not being re-tried now.  They will be re-tried once the hosts are running again.  Queued mail on these hosts is mostly mail from outside being forwarded by our users to addresses outside.

    2. The six hosts in service might hit their configured load limits for short periods of time (usually 15 or 30 seconds) and if that happens it would cause somewhat random delays in delivery.

     

    Update 10/28/2008 at 12:40pm:

    One of the two hosts is now in service.

     

    Update 10/28/2008 at 3:48pm:

    Both of these hosts are now back in service.

    CUIT will be replacing a UPS (ire-452rsd-b-1.net) at 452 Riverside Drive. This scheduled maintenance is expected to be completed on-time.

    Begining 10:45am EST today, Alpha Exchange network printing became unavailable. CUIT administrators have been notified and are currently working to resolve the issue.

    This only affects administrative staff on Alpha Exchange, not other printing services.

    CUIT does not have an ETR at this time, but will provide an update when one becomes available. We apologize for this service interruption.

     

    UPDATE:  Alpha Exchange printing was restored at 12:15pm EST.

    Network connectivity between CU Press (61W62 St.) and Irvington, NY is currently down. Outage is due to loss of power, Con-Ed is on site.
