    One of the cyrus backend hosts has been down since 5:00am due to hardware failure.  Approximately 6,000 users are affected.  These accounts will not be able read old mail or receive new mail until the problem has been resolved.

    Engineers are on their way to investigate.

    This problem was resolved by 6am.

    Begining 11/3/2008 at 2:45pm, delivery of new email to Columbia Cyrus email accounts became unavailable.  CUIT administrators have been notified and are currently working to resolve the issue.

    Mail is flowing normally as of 5pm.  No mail was lost, though some messages may be delivered out of order.

    CourseWorks, the University's course management system, and the Sakai Pilot will be UNAVAILABLE from 7 to 8 a.m., THIS Sunday, November 2.

    We we will be performing systems, application, and Web server maintenance during this time.

    CUIT will be replacing faulty equipment at 542 W 112 St on 10/29 between 11:00am and 11:30am. Users on the 5th, 6th, and 7th floors will experience loss of network connectivity during this time.

    Some of the SMTP hosts are out of service because they are giving
    errors:

    3 of 8 externalsmtp hosts.  This pool handles incoming mail to columbia.edu.

    1 of 3 internalsmtp hosts.  These send mail originating on CUIT systems and mail sent to smtp server send.columbia.edu.

    The impact of this outage is possible delays in mail delivery.

     

    Update 10/29/2008 at 1:05pm:

    All servers sending mail to other Columbia email addresses are restored.    The 3 of 8 servers sending mail outside of Columbia that are affected are likely to continue being affected until late afternoon.  No mail is lost, but may experience a delay in their transmission.

     

    Update 10/30/2008 at 9:26am:

    The three externalsmtp hosts had their operating system re-installed and tested, and were put back online at about 4:30 am today.
