    This test was successful. The test demonstrates that if the Morningside system is not functional the Syracuse site will automatically start handling email instead. Inbound email was received through the Syracuse site from 10:42 to 10:55, when the Morningside site was put back in service.


    On Saturday January 7 between 10:30 a.m. and 1:00 p.m. CUIT will conduct a failover test of the inbound mail system from the Morningside servers to the Syracuse servers and back again. We have verified that the Syracuse servers are fully functional and we have previously tested the failover with non-production systems. No outage is expected. After a successful test we will enable automatic failover to Syracuse in case the Morningside system should ever become unavailable.

    Earlier today CUIT was notifified that mail was not being delivered between and  CUIT worked with the appropriate email administrators to correct the situation.  Messages were queued on the messaging systems and should be delivered shortly.

    The approximate time of this issue was 10 am to 5 pm.

    Update: Regular updates have resumed.


    Update: All pending updates were done at 3:20pm.


    Today the list of email addresses (known as "guf") is not being updated every 10 minutes as usual. This affects any changes to delivery of an address, such as changes to uni forwarding and creation of addresses for new users. At this writing (12:45) the list has not updated since 9:00. 

    CUIT engineers are working on the problem.

    Update: Performance significantly improved at about 2:45pm. There are still a few problems with the web pages but delivery is up to date.


    Performance of the Mailman mailing list system has been degraded today. Addresses are Mailman lists. Delivery of some messages has been delayed, and the list owner's web page for some lists does not display. 

    CUIT engineers are working on the problem.
