Sundial
09/05/2008 - 09:00am to 09/08/2008 - 08:00am
Due to the large number of students accessing the university's calendaring system, Sundial (http://calendar.columbia.edu/sundial), for the ServiceNation event on Sept 11 featuring Senators Barak Obama and John McCain there is a bit of a slowdown which has at times been resulting in a request timeout. Configuration changes are underway to allow more connections to the event's registration.
Users are urged to try registering for the event later. Due to demand, registration has been extended until 8:00am Monday (9/8). As connections to Sundial close, a chance will open for them to register. Order of registration will not have any effect on the user's chances of winning the lottery that will ultimately choose the students who may attend. Registration for the event is at https://calendar.columbia.edu/sundial/webapi/register.php?eventID=25241.
NOTE: This announcement was updated 8:47pm on Friday 9/5, and an earlier version reflected a differnt deadline.
Update 9/10/2008 at 2:55pm:
Please be aware that the ServiceNation lottery has been conducted and all students allotted tickets have now been notified.
Network - Ethernet
10/12/2008 - 08:00am to 10/12/2008 - 04:00pm
Facilities informed us that there will be an emergency electrical
shutdown for the entire Nevis Laboratories this Sunday 10/12/2008 at
8am. Power will be restored by 4pm.
This will impact CUIT-provided network connectivity at Nevis and Lamont as follows:
NEVIS:
Nevis will lose all CUIT-provided network connectivity during the power outage.
LAMONT:
When the shutdown occurs at 8am, the traffic between Lamont and the
Commodity Internet will re-route from the Qwest connection at Nevis to
the Level 3 connection at Morningside. Lamont will see a disruption of
that traffic for up to 5 minutes.
When power is restored, the traffic between Lamont and the Commodity
Internet will re-route back to the Qwest connection at Nevis. Lamont
will again see a disruption of that traffic for up to 5 minutes.
Traffic between Lamont and Morningside/Internet2 should not be affected.

Begining 10/10/08 11:27pm, , incoming mail to about 8,600 Cyrus email accounts ceased being delivered. This persisted till 9:50am this morning, and was caused by a database issue. No mail was lost. The overnight mail queued, and started to be delivered at 9:50am.
To resolve this issue, Cyrus email service had to be temporarily suspended and restarted. This resulted in a system-wide downtime from 9:45 to 9:50am this morning, directly affecting 360 clients accessing their email at that time.
We apologize for this service interruption
