TLS encryption will be enabled for incoming email on Wednesday March 20.
TLS encrypts email while in transit between columbia.edu and the remote server. It is an optional service. When the remote server offers TLS, we use it when sending. Once we offer TLS, remote servers can send with it to columbia.edu. When the remote host does not implement TLS we will still exchange email as unencrypted plain text.
There will be a downtime of about 2 seconds to restart the software. The work will be done between 9:30 and 10:30 in the morning.
