UPDATE:  This issue was resolved by 2am.  Between 1:50 and 1:55am, there was a brief outage for 10,000 users due to a necessary server restart relating to this issue's final resolution.

CUIT is performing emergency, necessary maintenance, starting at 7pm 2/25, to one of the servers that is part of the Cyrus email service.  This will impact the same 1700 users that were affected in this morning's unplanned outage.   The outage is anticipated to last till 7am 2/26.

During the scheduled time of this Service Alert, clients may experience:

Upon login to Cubmail or using an email client program, affected customers may see an empty email inbox.  They should be able to send email but not receive or see email.  No mail is expected to be lost during this planned emergency maintenance.   Any mail sent to affected users during this outage will be queued for delivery once service is restored.

  • Network - Ethernet and Wireless
    02/25/2010 - 04:00pm to 02/25/2010 - 06:00pm

Update:The primary connection has been restored. The problem was related to the weather.

Due to unforeseen circumstances, there is a network equiptment malfunction at 3280 Broadway (Nash). Users at this location are temporarily having their network connection routed over the backup circuit. This provides users with a slower connection.

We apologize for the short notice and any inconvenience this may cause; however, CUIT technicians are working on the issue.

System administrators do not expect any disruption in service, but it is expected that users may experience slower connection speeds. We appologize for any inconvenience.

    02/25/2010 - 04:50am to 02/25/2010 - 10:00am

Begining approximately around 8:30am, a small but as yet undetermined numbers of Cyrus/Cubmail email users have been unable to access their email.  Affected clients may experience that they can successfull login but the inbox contents (and subfolders) will not display.  NO LOSS of email is suspected at this time; the problem resolves around the displaying of emails, not their loss.  CUIT administrators are currently working to resolve the issue.

UPDATE:  Service was restored by 10am.  The total number of users affected was approximately 1,700.  All email sent to affected email accounts during the outage were queued and delivered once service was restored.  Such mail may have been delivered out of order, but would have accurate timestamps.
