  • Cellular - Blackberry Enterprise Server (BES)
    03/18/2010 - 11:44am to 06/30/2010 - 04:38pm

In order to protect sensitive and confidential  University data, CUIT has a mandatory password policy for CUIT-issued smartphone devices.  As part of this policy, starting 3/25/2010, CUIT-managed Blackberries on Blackberry Enterprise Service (BES) that do not have a password set will be remotely required to set a password.

While all CUIT-issued smartphone devices are expected to have a password set on them to protect confidential information, only those managed by CUIT through BES will experience a direct intervention.

  • Email - Cyrus
    03/15/2010 - 09:08am to 04/01/2010 - 01:36pm

Customers who use AT&T as an internet service provider -including iPhone users - may be experiencing problems sending mail.  (Receiving mail does not appear to be an issue.)  If you are not using ATT as an internet service provider (DSL at home, iPhone/cell phone data plan, ATT cellular data USB card, etc.), this does not affect you.

We believe this problem may have started either on Monday 3/15 or Tuesday 3/16.   The problem appears to be that ATT is blocking Columbia's SMTP server (the server that's used to send out Columbia Cyrus email account users' email). To reiterate, it would not be affecting the receipt of email.   Customers trying to send email using send.columbia.edu port 587 over ATT would likely receive an error message and would see their outbound messages queuing in their outbox.

University staff with Alpha/Central Exchange email accounts who are using the Exchange server to send their mail are unaffected.

Administrators are working to get in touch with appropriate ATT staff to address this problem.

  • AP/CAR
    03/05/2010 - 11:10am to 03/05/2010 - 01:38pm

This was resolved by 4pm EST.

Beginning 3/5/2010 at 11:10am, access to AP/CAR, FFE, and FinSys became unavailable. CUIT administrators have been notified and are currently working to resolve the issue.

CUIT expects to have a resolution or an update soon. We apologize for this service interruption.
